Gary commenced work in the trim shop at Haines hunter. Haines hunter was located at Goodna under the leadership of John Haines (deceased)
Promoted to foreman – staff of 8 – responsibilities included running trim shop. In those days 100 boats per month rolled off the production line. New boats needed new designs in upholstery and Gary had to produce the goods. In the meantime, Haines Hunter, had moved into new premises located at Wacol.
John Haines (deceased) lost the controlling share in Haines Hunter. New owners relocated the business to Yatala.
In June, 2008, Haines Hunter relocated to Melbourne. This ended Gary’s association with the Haines Hunter product. Some of the designs that are still in production at the Haines Hunter factory, are the original design’s of Gary.
With the knowledge that Haines Hunter was moving to Melbourne, the decision was made to open a business at Meridien Marinas. In the intervening years, Gary’s 3 Sons, Cameron, Nickolas and Nathan joined the Business. Gary and the three boys have a total of 70 years experience between them.
Cameron joined the business in 1995 and Nickolas in 1998. Both have completed their apprenticeship. Nathan attended Gatton University in 2001 to study horticulture, but he had a change of mind and joined the Family Business.
Nickolas is the Custom design member of the Business. Through his continuous studies in this field, this has given the Business the edge to be able to co-ordinate design and colour selection for any craft in-house. This is an excellent advantage for all of our clients, as we do not have to outsource this usually expensive attribute.
Cameron – was a volunteer with VMR Southport, (Volunteer Marine Rescue) for 4 years but due to the demands of the business he decided to take a leave of absence.
Nathan - is still a volunteer with VMR Southport. He has been doing this for 3 years.
Gary’s wife, Denise (mother to the 3 boys) is the office manager. The family buy and sell boats to use for the own recreational use. Cameron has a BBQ boat and the family can often be seen enjoying all the Broadwater has to offer. For a break from boating and all that goes with it, Gary and Denise enjoy Rock and Roll dancing. They were the proud winners of a Gold Medal at the Pan Pacific Games held at Broadbeach in 2008.
